I highly respect individuals who can unleash the truth despite where their loyalties lie. Case in point, T.J. Simmers, a staff writer for the LA Times rips a hole for fellow LA Times writers-critics who slammed the 2009 Oscars that aired last Sunday 2/22/2009.

The Times Sells Uh-Ohs!

In Mr. Simmers article “And the award for the most negativity goes to The Times”, he brings up the point that entertainment critics seems to sell failure more than success. This kind of topic strikes a cord within me because often I feel like there is a great injustice in the world when someone writes a critique on someone else’s work without a full disclosure regarding both positive and negative remarks. I know that it’s ironic that I am writing a critique about someones critique, but haven’t we all learned that “if you are not going to say anything nice, don’t say anything at all?”

I agree with Simmers’ tone when he implicitly states “who died and made you the leading expert in Oscar night entertainment?”

C’mon it wasn’t that bad was it? It’s no wonder why the Oscars has more hosts than the octo-mom’s last litter (barely, but the Oscars had both Jon Stewart and Hugh Jackman, touche), everyone is concerned about what the critics would say after it is all said and done.

I guess it’s true, you sell a lot more newspapers reporting failures and missteps, but I honestly believe that people equally try to find heartwarming and hopeful articles (or even articles about perseverance and success).

So *high-five* T.J. Simmers. I’ve always enjoyed your spin on the news, The Times is lucky to have you.
