So, every once and a while my big family changes up Christmas by doing the ’secret santa’ gift exchange. In case you don’t know the formalities of secret santa here is a quick low-down:
Everyone will put their name and three possible gifts requests on a piece of paper. Then each secret santa participant will randomly draw a name from the pool. Whoever you choose is the person you must purchase a gift for.
The key here are the rules that make the game really fun and not so complicated. So, here are some do’s and don’ts of “secret santa”:
Don’t: People often leave out the price range, this causes confusion for buyers who don’t know what they should give.
Do: Set a minimum and maximum the price of the present can be, it makes it fair for everyone to get something nice for Christmas.
Don’t: Write the store that you like to purchase from, don’t write really general gift ideas, or else you will get a general gift.
Do: Write down either very specific gifts you’d like to receive. Or at least a good representation of what you want.
Don’t: Don’t call it white elephant!! White elephant has such bad connotations that it makes Christmas time a joke.
Do: Create themes and funny restrictions that would make the purchaser/receiver have a good time. Like, you can only purchase items from Costco. Or, you have to purchase a gift and a bar of candy, it’s makes it special and funny.
Happy Holidays!
