Ok, maybe not necessarily an adventure but I’m excited to start digging deeper into the world of interior design and will be sharing the experience with you! And I welcome any advice, guidance or criticisms because this can be an ongoing learning experience to better design inspirations.
Contemporary Designs are my starting point, see more images below.
Come along on the Design Adventure
I sell furniture. I live in an apartment. But I never really found my style, my design. If you asked me to give advice on decorating I would not know where to start. So to improve myself in this aspect, I’ve decided to embark on a interior design adventure and take you along with me on my journey.
Monkey see monkey do
I remember back in college I took a computer programming class. And the first thing the professor said, in his metal wired glasses and short sleeve dress shirt, “…the best way to learn programming is to mimic other people’s codes.” I was thinking to myself when I heard that, “Doesn’t mimic mean to copy?” But not really, mimicking is more like practicing the creation of something so that you can get a feel or taste for what you’re creating. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think learning interior design and adapting to a personal style can be done through mimicking as well.
What to mimic?
I was scouring the net to find some designs that represented general styles. Maybe we can all learn from this and see what people mean when they used the words “contemporary” or “rustic” when they talk about designs.
Let’s start with Contemporary Design
I found a few projects particularly inspiring by Mil Bodron from Texas on Contemporary designs. Let’s take a look.

The rug and the chairs grab my attention and works as a good starting point on the focus of the room.

I like the contrasting black leather lounge chairs. A good mix and match from the Eames style design in the 50s.

The natural light is nice in balance with the furniture and interior. The rug is a nice color that makes use of the natural light rather than a darker color.

Looks a little lonely, but I like it. It seems very relaxing to be in a room like this for some reason.
(You can see more of Mil Bodron’s projects in detail at his design site at Bodronfruit.com)
Contemporary is my Preference
I think contemporary design is one of my favorite styles that I would prefer for my home. This is probably because contemporary design focuses on function first and foremost. I’m particularly fond of the clutter free concept of contemporary style as it welcomes me home from a hectic day at work.
Anyways, this post is getting kinda long. So I’m just going to continue to expand more on each style, other designs and designers by posting what I find as I go along and study them in the near future. Stay tuned for more posts on my series of design inspirations and learning together with you on how to dig deeper to expand our knowledge in interior design ideas.
