What entrepreneur doesn’t dream of some investor coming in and funding their business with unlimited cash and resources? I’m sure there are some that just want to have a stable decent sized business and not think of growing. But most of us like to improve what we do for our customers and inevitably that leads to growth, whether we like it or not.

Time and Money: You spend one to save the other.
A Time to Treasure
Wanting to do more and do better puts a lot of companies through growing pains where resources become scarce. There’s not enough people to do the things you want to do and you, yourself, don’t even have enough time to do it all if you wanted to. You start wishing that there was an angel investor or some venture capital firm that would come in and fund your business. I’m not saying that is impossible, but what I am saying is that you should value and treasure the time when you have limited resources.
What Are Resources?
Money is a resource. It can allow you to buy better equipment, technology, advertisements. It can also help you hire more people to help you do more work and think. It’s a burden that money is always limited. But also think about time as well. It’s the one resource that you can’t “buy” more of. So what do you do?
Limited Time, Limited Resources
My point is that you are constantly running out of time up until the day you die (I know it sounds dire), so don’t waste any of it. With limited resources, like money, time and labor, you then have to be creative! It’s actually a hidden blessing. I personally think that when resources are limited it brings the best out of everyone. You become very creative with what you have and come up with the best ideas. And with time, you get better and better. Maybe one day you will get funding to grow your business, but until then feel blessed that you are challenged to think hard and come up with the best ideas you will probably have in your career. Because when you have money and people working for you, you kind of lose touch with your creativity.
Here are some tools I use to help me better manage my time and be creative with what I do:
twitter.com – to keep in touch and network with people of like interests and get new ideas and my mind thinking
gmail.com – it’s fasts, reliable and you have practically unlimited storage. When hooked up to my blackberry, it’s the best! All synced up and everything.
Google Calendar – don’t try to remember everything, write it down on the calendar. You can even share parts of it with other people.
And best thing about the things I just listed: They’re Free! So much for limited resources, use what you have and still accel at what you do!
