What does “leisure in lifestyle” mean? Well it’s the idea that you can live your life freely without worrying about time-consuming duties, sounds simple doesn’t it? It’s not.
When someone says “I’ll return your call at my leisure” it is usually when you remember to call the person back. However, leisure implies that you will call back “when one has free time; or at one’s convenience”. The simple fact that you have to remember to call the person back simply takes away from the leisurely act. Because once you remembered that you needed to call the person back you it becomes a responsibility.
However, you can take back your leisurely lifestyle by simplifying your life from over scheduling and spending time on things you want to do.
Over scheduling: often people tend to over-book themselves and fail to take inconsideration the fatigue it might take to go from on task to another. Have you ever heard of interval training? It’s when you rotate intensive exertion with periods of lower intensity activities in a workout session. Sure this is great if you want to work your body harder going from rested to active, rested to active. But this isn’t healthy if you schedule every day as if you are interval training.
Try this: Schedule FOUR things to do, in one day. Aside from your routine activities like eating and your winding down time. So, one example would be 1) work, 2) exercise, 3) dinner with Jane, and 4)do laundry. OR 1)work, 2)run errands, 3) catchup with John, and 4) eat left overs + watching tv. Once you’ve contained your activities it’ll be much easier to manage your day.
Spending time on things you want to do: One of the four things that you schedule should be something you want to do. Like spending time with your parents or spending time with your kids. It’s not often we schedule leisure time with our friends and family. Usually leisure time is considered time you can simply hang out not just over dinner. Sharing time spent together is priceless.
Essentially, when you tell someone you can call back at your leisure, you will be able to “schedule” your leisurely activities and make them more leisurely. Okay, I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but when you start prioritizing yourself, it’s completely different. Considering yourself at a priority gives you your leisurely lifestyle because it’s not time consuming nor a duty when you are doing something your enjoy.
