Furniture Dollars: War in Iraq = 10 Chairs for You

I used to go to a junior high where they had Raider dollars. Raiders was our mascot. It was a pirate looking thing.

But anyways, when we were kids it was great to get awarded Raider dollars because we could get things from the student store with it. We could get basketballs, school shirts, pencils and that got me thinking.

Numbers too big to imagine
We see some big numbers regarding the economy in the news. So big that we don’t really feel how much the $500 billion Iraq war really costs (probably even more since I wrote this article). So I’m going to put things into Furniture Dollars perspective here.

Need some extra dining chairs?
Let’s see. $500 billion in furniture dollars would be able to get you 1.7 billion our most expensive dining chairs. (See the Set of 2 Espresso Brown Leather Parson Dining Chairs) Where each chair shipped to your door would be $293. That’s a lot of chairs. And still a lot to imagine how much that would be, right?

Family of Five
Considering that the average family has about 5 people, there would be enough chairs for 342 million families. There’s about 303 million people in the entire country of the United States.
So each and every one of us US citizens would be able to get a family’s set of 10 chairs. That’s more chairs than I need and that’s a costly war.
