Secrets to Getting Free Money Shopping Online

by ericl on December 29, 2008

Make money while you shop. You’ve shopped before and you will continue shop in the future.  And my take on it is that you should get something for all that hard work you put into shopping.  Right?  Especially if you shop online.

Spend Money to Save Money

Spend Money to Save Money

Be a Smart Shopper
I’ve been talking about my fiance a lot, but hey I get a lot of good ideas from her.  She’s a very smart shopper, and has a lot of smart shopper friends too (Actually, there is this one friend that deserves most of the credit.  [If you're reading this, you know I'm talking about you. :-) ]).  And one thing I learned watching her spend money is that she saves money at the same time.

Shoes and a Dress
At the end of a long day at work, my fiance would come up to me and say “Hey honey, I just got a pair of shoes and a dress online.”  I think to myself, “Don’t we have to save money for our wedding?”  But aside from that she told me she saved 15% and got cash back right away.  I was quite impressed, and I later found out that the shoes and dress WERE for the wedding.  Shame on me for having those thoughts. (Honey, if you’re reading this, I fully support your spending habits.  No complaints at all. ;-p)

Retail Store Too
What’s even more interesting are the stores that you can shop at to get free money.  I actually thought shopping online only involved online stores.  But actually you can get free money shopping at some of your favorite retailers, like Gap, Target and even Bloomingdale’s.

Free Your Money Now
So what’s the secret, you ask?  You may have already heard of it, but if you haven’t, then you should sign up free with Ebates.com.  If you feel nice, you can make me (and you) 5 bucks by entering my email (ericL (at) visiondecor.com (dot) com) as a referrer.

Oh, there’s more.
Ok, ok, I know this is getting a to be a bit long, but you can save even more money when shopping online.  So while I am writing this, my fiance came back from shopping at Target (”how fitting”), and I told her about this article I am writing.  So she responds all excited and gave me one last tip.  So before checking out when shopping online, go to retailmenot.com and search for the site that you’re on to find a cash back or coupon code.  By using ebates and retailmenot.com you’ll be able to get both cash back and discounts off your order.  Double the savings!

{Special thanks to my lovely Stella (and that ‘one’ friend, who is a great friend have)!  I have a lot to learn about shopping and style from you gals.  Thanks!}

    i love it when stores have those sale items and then on top of the sale price, you can get another 20-30% off. it’s great! maybe this is why i’m a shopaholic…since then i think: “huh, i’ve saved money and this money can be used towards something else.”
    oh yea, and saving money for a wedding is grueling work since there are so many things needed…but wherever howdy and i saved, we splurged in other areas. we had no decorations and my dress was like $85 and our wedding still looked like it cost a lot of mu-lah.
    my tip: save on the wedding, splurge on the honeymoon.
