Furniture Defined – Computer Desk
| A computer desk is specifically a desk designed to provide a comfortable and meaningful setting for work or other activity involving either a computer, desktop work, or other office equipment. The computer desk is a derivative of the ergonomic desk, which was first introduced to the American office setting in the 1950s when legislation set minimum ergonomic requirements for office furniture. The basis of an ergonomic desk is that it is adjustable to a certain extent, to be comfortably used by people of different sizes. A modern computer desk is a variant of this, and usually includes the following primary features: a keyboard tray, desk space for writing and paperwork, and often holes or racks for computer cords and peripherals. |
