With the onslaught of social networks popping up before you could update your current status, more and more professionals could be updating a little bit too much information.
Social networks, old or new, thrives on the users updating their websites so that friends, families, and even bosses know what is currently going on. Have you ever wondered who exactly is looking at your posts? Could updating your personal web page get you into trouble at work? We all know that under your social web space users, out of habit, updates events that go on in their life. This could spell trouble if you decide not to go to work one day for personal reasons:

5 Things You Should Do If you Plan on Missing Work:
- Be honest. If you need sometime to collect yourself, tell your boss what is going on. If you are playing with personal time off versus sick days, well, you have to do some extra work to make sure your cover is not blown. (If you don’t follow this advice, see the next four steps)
- Keep it simple. So you might need to fudge the truth, well, keep it simple. Over exaggerating the facts is the number one thing that gives you away. Keep it simple.
- Refrain! Stop updating! Even my boss has a Facebook account, so if they see stuff like “Thanks for a great time.” or “That as sooo fun yesterday” they will get suspicious. Maybe they will not be able to get you on anything, but they will remember.
- The less people know the better. Keep your outings to a minimal. Tell people who know to keep a lid on it!
- Alibi. What are the chances that you will run into someone from work? Good, actually. Along with #2, if you need to elaborate on the “why” then briefly explain.
Understandably you shouldn’t have anything to hide, but just be aware that if you put personal information on the internet, it might just come back and haunt you.
