This is an update from a previous post regarding Amazon.com Site down that caused a small but noticeable ripple on the internet. A few articles have sprouted since the outage that is still lingering since the initial shut down on June 6, 2008.
CNN was one of the first widely syndicated news stations to report the outage last Friday (even though Visiondecor had the jump on this story a good seven hours before they did) stating “Amazon.com’s Web site went down in North America for about two hours in the middle of the day Friday because of system problems, the online retailer said.”
Also, a rumor, reported by a gaming blog, stated that a bot aimed to purchase ‘pre-order’ copies of Metal Gear Solid 4 has single handed-ly brought down Amazon site during MGS4 availability. Understandably, the gaming community is hardcore about their games, but being able to bring down ginormous Amazon.com is quite unheard of.
Here is ‘proof’:
My highly reliable grapevine is reporting: ‘just heard that it is due to a game release (Metal Gear , some kind of PlayStation bundle). I guess ome bots try to order it.’ Jon
Well, nevertheless, Amazon.com is still recovering from their Http/1.1 Service Unavailable error on their front page when loaded.
The reason for our concern, being a furniture retailer, is due to the fact that Visiondecor Furniture is a featured seller on Amazon.com and their downtime is noticeable.
