Area rugs are making a splash in the home improvement scene. This is the time most home owners start visiting their local hardware stores (e.g. Home Deport and Lowes) for a quick estimate on tile, laminate, or hardwood floors. Carpet seems to be the flooring of the past because it cannot withstand the wear and tear that hardwood floors can withstand. For the next few years, area rugs will take it’s place in most small or large, and modern or contemporary home.

In a recent article in Home Accents Today’s March 2008 issue, “Area Rug, lamps sales expect to grow by 2012″ based on consumer reports and surveys. The data from these reports reflects the home buying / remodeling trend that has now plateaued over the past few months. Many home improvements (such as hardwood floors, or upgraded kitchens and bathrooms) rarely boost the value of the home because the return on investment is not as lucrative as it once was.
A CNN article on March 14, 2008 sited that the return on investment for home improvements was less than 70%.
NAR’s survey revealed that returns on investment for a wide range of high-end interior redecorations dropped in 2007. An upscale bathroom renovation cost an average of $50,590, nationally, but only added $34,588 to house value – a 68.4% return. In 2006, a high-end bath renovation returned 77.4% of its cost.
So, now home owners are looking for ways to improve the style of their home and many of our customers have been inquiring about Area Rugs. Here are the top five methods used to produce area rugs:
# 1 Braided
# 2 Hooking
# 3 Rag Rugs (also Needlepunch)
# 4 Prodded
# 5 Woven
None of these techniques which are more popular than another due to the fact that different regions use different materials for area rug making that highly relies on the technique. Check out the wide selection of area rugs (with plenty more being catalogued) only at Visiondecor.
