Bombe Chests (pronounced: bom-bay’) are slowly becoming a house hold name. By definition it is a “cabinet with a bulge or serpentine front (and sometimes sides), usually with drawers” (from About.com, see link above). Bombe chests are the newest craze for your home because it is the usually the first piece of furniture that is seen by guests as they enter the home and can be used to decorate hall ways and foyeurs.
Bombe chests (also known as Bombay Chest, a common misspelling) have multiple functions and can be either very elaborate in design or very simple and elegant to store the small items in your foyer. Often, interior designers use bombe chests to fill empty halls or entryways so that the house looks less bland and undecorated.

Here are some practical buying guides you should consider when choosing a Bombe Chest (Bombay Chest) for your home:
- Consider how elaborate the design you want. A good rule of thumb is to understand what is the positioning of the bombe chest. If it viewed immediately from the front, consider a more elaborate pieces. If it is view able from the side, you might want to consider a less elaborate pieces.
- Accent pieces. How do you plan on having accent pieces on top of the bombe chest like a mirror, painting, or ornament? In this situation, less is more. Your bombe chest is already an accent piece.
- Lastly, Storage. Basically, anything you can fit inside a bombe chest, belongs there. However, it is great to keep the small odds and ends inside the chest rather than having it laid out.
